For super-sharp detail and excellent readability even in direct sunlight, the AirMap 500 features a high-resolution Film SuperTwist LCD displays with 16-level gray scale definition. The sleek AirMap 500 handheld touts a 3-inch diagonal screen with 240V x 180H pixel resolution and includes an adjustable white LED screen backlighting for use at night or in low light.
The AirMap 500 includes WAAS reception to complement the full 12-parallel channel GPS receiver for enhanced position accuracy to 3 meters using the built-in antenna, or the advanced RAA-3 Remote Amplifying Antenna. An exclusive new Airport Orientation Page split-screen mapping display shows current position and destination with auto-zoom, plus a rotating map showing airport and final approach with runways and pilotselectable runway extensions. Both also offer a new HSI steering guidance screen than can be pilot-customized with navigational information from a menu of over 20 choices.
The new AirMap 500 incorporates the Lowrance innovation of digital media memory card versatility. A slot in the battery compartment accepts one compact, non-proprietary Multi-Media Card (MMC) or Secure Digital (SD) memory cardthat provides a host of new advantages for the pilot. These include easy plug-and-play of Jeppesen® and exclusive Lowrance Obstruction databases, as well as custom high-detail land/marine mapping; convenient in-the-field operating firmware updates (downloaded free from the Lowrance website); and recording GPS trip details for archiving and future use.
For one nicely affordable price, the new-generation AirMap 500 comes in a complete system that includes Jeppesen® and Obstructions databases on one 32MB MMC/SD card; advanced RAA-3 Remote Amplifying Antenna; RAM® yoke-mount bracket; cigarette plug power adapter; and AA batteries. As an added bonus, it include MapCreate™ PC software on two CDROMs and a memory card reader-writer to create unlimited, high-detail, custom continental U.S. and Hawaii land/marine mapping on MMC/SD memory cards for AirMap Moving Map display.
